Naked Mice

Introducing ...

Adam and Eve Mouse

I found someone who can laser cut felt to custom sizes for me, so i no longer have to cut each ear, hand and foot out by hand (yay!) unfortunately the pink felt arrived a bit brighter that i normally use. I'm not sure if it works or not... what do you think?

About Life, Craftinesss and Everything Else

Me
I am Anna. I am 31 year old Brit living in The Netherlands. I'm a creator of paintings, drawings, toys and anything else that grabs my interest. I believe that creativity in any of its forms is a reason for being, and the artists' way is the path I have chosen to walk. I am a child at heart and love all those who share my joy in cuteness! I love to blog about my store and other artists that interest me. I also love to give back to the handmade community by writing tutorials and How-tos on running a handmade business.

Life, Craftiness and Everything Else
My blog is called Life, Craftiness and Everything Else because I really could end up writing about life, the universe and everything else! I want to share my ideas, life and the things I have learned here, so it felt right to choose a name that could encompass just about everything!

The cleanup continues...

As I wrote in a previous blog entry "Woops I did it again..." it is time for a major spring (mid summer?) cleanup of my home. All my daily and weekly goals have been put on hold while I get my living environment back into an organized state. All I can say is I am so glad that the disorganization has not spread to my business papers. That at least is well ordered and I know where everything is.

The cleanup operation began yesterday morning. The top 4 rooms of my home are now more organized than they where when we moved in! :) now I just have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room and dining room left to go *sigh* I doubt I will be done by the end of today, but I am already feeling better for what I have done so far. I have not located the missing vital paperwork yet, but perhaps it will turn up today.

A Banner Dilemma

I have been trying to come up with a new banner for my store. Not that I don't like the old one, but I feel like I need something fresher that will suit the way I photograph my mice now.

Here's what i came up with so far....

I added a border because the banner will be white on white and I wondered if it looks better with a border for the mouse to be peeking over. Of course I could do the first one with a border too... I'm undecided... what do you think?

Where the white things are...

All 16 listings in my Etsy Treasury

Woops, I did it again...

Having just blogged about how my mind is left brained, one of the questions to determine this was "do you tend to: 1) keep things in their place 2) lose things” - guess which one I chose?

Yes, I lose things, all the time. Having lived my whole life with this ability to misplace stuff simply by walking from one room into another, I have learned to take it as one of my quirks and try to avoid getting upset when it happens. This is simple enough when all I have lost is a pen or a CD. However, my knack for mislaying random items is not confined to everyday it’ll-turn-up-eventually or I-don’t-need-to-worry- about-it-right-now things.

No, yesterday I discovered the loss of something rather important, in fact something exceedingly important; vital paperwork. In this situation it is almost impossible to keep my head because I know how highly developed this talent of causing things to vanish can be. As soon as this vital paperwork was requested, I got that sinking feeling… I know I have seen it somewhere, but even at that moment I could almost guarantee that where I saw it was not where it should have been.

My untidiness has spread throughout our house… There are piles of paperwork and boxes of random things that should be put away, stacked high in unlikely places all over the place. You know those TV shows of people who have horded every little piece of junk they ever laid hands on? Well my place isn’t that bad! But it feels like I am facing those mountains of trash now that I have to start a systematic search for one small, leather covered piece of paperwork.

Even now as I write this, vowing to myself to always put things away immediately, I know it will not stick. Many times in the past I have seen the error of my untidy ways, each time I have vowed to put a stop to it. And yet for some reason the piles of paperwork and random things that belong in a different part of the house always return. And then, a few months from now, I will need another important item – probably with only an hour to find it – and I will be tearing my dreads out and yelling at myself again…

Being dyslexic I have always known that it is organize my life or watch it fall apart. Organization is a dyslexics’ savior (well, that and spell-check). Yet for a dyslexic, left brained person, organization is one of the hardest things to do. It is like asking a right handed person to write with their left hand, we don’t like it, our mind resists it, and it will never come easily…

Well I guess this explains everything...

Thanks to my friend ArtMind i decided to take the left brain vs right brain test...

You Are 10% Left Brained, 90% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.

If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.

If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

Are You Right or Left Brained?

I guess that explains everything!

Goals #3

My car decided to be highly uncooperative and break down in the middle of 3 lanes of traffic last Thursday, it is still at the garage a week later. I can't believe how difficult life is without a car! It is especially difficult at the moment because the buses in my area are on strike so i cannot get into town at all. I could cycle, although being a Brit i was not born with a bicycle attached like the locals here in Holland. Unfortunately for me i live the opposite end of the village from the town center and i am just not up for cycling for 45 minutes each way until I desperately need something. The garage where my car is being repaired has been telling me my car "will be ready tomorrow" for the last 3 days! I keep putting off going to the shops until i can have it back. i hope it will be with me again soon!

Goals for tomorrow:
1) Update stock inventory
2) Make list of mice I need to replace or I have low in stock
3) Make 1 set of 6 replacement mouse design

5) Relist 2 mice on Etsy

Morning Goals #1

OK so I'm back now. I have been neglecting my blog but that is going to change soon. Due to my tendency to just focus of the fun things in my business I have decided to start setting myself goals, and just to make it feel more official I am going to write them in my blog every day.

Thanks to some advice from a web designing friend I have been introduced to Joomla! which is a free Content Management System for building your own website. My wonderful husband Mike was kind enough to install this for me last night - the installation was way beyond anything I am capable of - so one of my weekly goals is already completed. yay!

Goals for this month:
1) Print up and put together a professional portfolio or catalog of my mice to show to shop owners
2) Design a brochure (also for shop presentations)
3) Make 8 new mice
4) Find a new place to advertise
5) redesign my Banner and Avatar for Etsy
6) get quote for studio refurbishment

Goals for this week:
1) Make 2 new mice.
